One stop along Virginia’s “Crooked Road” heritage music trail
By Hope S. Philbrick
Held in a Country Store with an authentic old-timey feel that’s still a vibrant part of the community, the Floyd Radio Show is a twice-weekly live variety show you won’t want to miss.
Stop by any Friday at 6:30 p.m. or Sunday at 2 p.m. to enjoy musical performances—genuine Virginian mountain music, bluegrass, gospel or Americana—comedy bits, radio plays, jingles, jokes, advertisements and more.
It’s billed as “celebrating old time and traditional music with people and communities where music is played and enjoyed in its authentic and purest forms.” It’s like the humble kid brother of Nashville’s Grand Ole Opry.
The sounds of Appalachian Floyd are a foot-tapping good time sure to bring a smile to your face.
Odds of Encountering Children: High, but the music is loud enough to dominate over whining and the “live radio” aspect of the show should inform parents that they must remove loud screamers from the audience.
