Release your inner artist.
By Hope S. Philbrick
It may have been awhile since the last time you made an art project and then raced home to show it off with pride.
Experience that creative euphoria again at The Glass Palette in Charlottesville, Virginia.
Glass may seem an intimidating medium to work with, but staffers at The Glass Palette help simplify the process of creating a piece that’s uniquely yours by breaking it down step by step.
Walk in during open studio hours or attend a class and within minutes you’ll be working on a project. No experience is needed to create a piece for display or functional use.
A gallery of hand-made pieces inspires ideas and displays possibilities.
To make a small curved plate, you’re handed a six- by six-inch piece of clear flat glass and shown how to cut colored glass pieces to arrange in any pattern on top of it. You choose the colors and design, from mosaic to a precise image.
Glue, sprinkles, tubes and other special effects add to the design and finished product.
Your piece is fired in a kiln with a mold to shape it and, when finished and cool, mailed to your home address, a one-of-a-kind souvenir of a fun and educational visit.
