Top-notch service distinguishes this hotel.

The words “Holiday Inn” may not conjure up adults-oriented luxury in your mind. Perhaps you think of kids running down orange shag carpeted hallways, splashing in crowded swimming pools. If that’s your mental image, it’s dated: Time to give the brand another look. And the Knoxville, Tennessee location is the place to start.

Nestled in downtown, the Holiday Inn Knoxville World’s Fair Park offers unexpected levels of service. During my recent three-day/two-night stay, I consistently experienced friendly, customer-committed staffers with keen attention-to-detail focus, sincere enthusiasm and genuine warmth. Color me impressed.

What’s more: This location is “adult friendly,” says Byron Perryman, general manager. “It depends on when you visit, but typically we see few kids.”

The hotel’s public spaces and guestrooms were renovated in 2012. The spacious lobby boasts multiple cozy seating areas, a fireplace, big-screen TVs, fresh bright colors, and several works of art—including the “World’s Largest” Rubix cube. Guestrooms are clean, spacious and offer everything you need plus a few extras like thoughtful electrical outlet locations for recharging your tech, extra luggage-storage spots and easy-to-control thermostats. Book a King Suite and you get two rooms: one furnished as a bedroom and the other as living space with upholstered seating, a second TV, bathroom and desk, plus a bar with mini-refrigerator and sink. After more than 20 years of marriage, I’m convinced there’s anything more luxurious and fundamentally romantic than staying in a hotel suite that includes one bathroom for you and another for your spouse!

The downtown location offers easy access from the highway, which makes arrival and departure quick. Once you’re settled in, you can leave your car parked at the hotel and walk to many appealing attractions like the Tennessee Theatre, Knoxville Museum of Art, East Tennessee History Center, historic Market Square, the city’s iconic Sunsphere across the street (which was built for the 1982 World’s Fair), and much more.

The host hotel of the 1982 World’s Fair, and adjacent to the Knoxville Convention Center and the University Conference Center, this Holiday Inn serves both business and leisure travelers.

Don’t miss Windows on the Park Restaurant and Lounge on the hotel’s main level for tasty bites, slurp-worthy sips, views of World’s Fair Park and, of course, excellent service.

For the best odds of an adults-oriented escape, avoid dates when the University of Tennessee will host sporting events.
Coming Soon…

There’s a big hotel story in Knoxville happening next door to the Holiday Inn. A new hotel, The Tennessean, is under construction. Billed as a “personal luxury hotel and residences” the new property promises to be gorgeous—we got a sneak peek at the designs and a hard-hat tour of the construction. As a nod to the nearby river, the décor incorporates watery tones and flowing motifs. It will have 82 guestrooms on five floors and residences on two floors. The service level at The Tennessean (which will be owned and operated by the same company that runs Holiday Inn Knoxville) aims to be even higher than its sibling: Butler service will be standard in all suites. The hotel is scheduled to open April 2017. Stay tuned for more information.
