There’s nothing quite like gazing out at the ocean. It’s at once relaxing and a temptation to adventure. It’s set with the rhythmic sound of crashing waves, spectacular color plays between the blue water and red sun, and salt-tinged breezes that tickle your nose and skin. It’s a crave-worthy getaway worth repeating.

The Holiday Inn Resort on Jekyll Island, Georgia, offers panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean and over a quarter of a mile of beachfront. Located adjacent to the island’s Great Dunes Beach, it feels remote even while it’s convenient to Beach Village (Main Street).

Even as you step into the three-story lobby to check in, the ocean is on display: Huge windows frame the beach. Odds are your room boasts the same view: More than 80 percent of the resort’s 157 spacious guestrooms face the ocean.

The Resort completed a $22 million build-out in March 2015; the Holiday Inn Resort replaced Oceanside Inn & Suites and had been closed since fall of 2013. The footprint of the original building serves as the base for the new one. All guest rooms have been updated with contemporary décor, plush comfortable bedding, and modern furnishings. The entire hotel has a breezy-oceanside color scheme and a laid-back vibe.

Jekyll Island is a historic Georgia Coast destination made famous in the late 1800s as the exclusive playground of the social elite including the Rockefellers, Morgans and Pulitzers.

The Holiday Inn Resort on Jekyll Island is an affordable option to enjoy Jekyll Island today—and you can do it with your pooch, if you prefer.

Dogs Welcome

Traveling without children doesn’t mean you don’t have a travel companion. Traveling with pets—most often, dogs—is a growing trend. If you crave a beach getaway with your furry four-legged best friend, you’re in luck! The Holiday Inn Resort on Jekyll Island is pet-friendly.

What’s more, from now through Memorial Day, dogs can run on the beach without a leash.

Dogs are only allowed off-leash on the beach during the off-season, which is from Labor Day through Memorial Day. Be sure to pay attention to signs when accessing the beach. According to the Jeykll Island Authority, “If you are accessing the beach in a wildlife viewing location you will see signs that read, “Keep all dogs on a short leash” or “No pets allowed in this area” (e.g., Glory Beach). Unless otherwise posted, dogs are allowed on the beach as long as they are under the owner’s control or on a leash.” In short, if there’s a sign, follow the rules. If not, and it’s the off-season, you can let your furry buddy run.

Of course, whenever you visit, you’re responsible for your dog’s behavior and must clean up after them. “When your animal is allowed on the beach, if it leaves more than prints in the sand… please pick it up!” is the island motto. Dog waste bag receptacles are located at each beach access point that allows pets, though it’s always a good idea to bring your own bags in case the receptacles are empty.

So bring your little Prince or Princess along on your vacation—without compromising on a simple joy of oceanside accommodations: The opportunity to gaze out at the ocean from your guestroom window and/or private balcony. Being able to do that with a hand on your canine companion doubles the pleasure of staying at the Holiday Inn Resort on Jekyll Island.
