Stylish stay in St. Louis, Missouri

By Hope S. Philbrick

When you’ve been on the road for 10 hours, just one leg of a month-long journey, you deserve more than just a place to sleep.

Pampering is what you crave. Staffers who complete check-in in a flash and help transport your luggage up to your spiffy room. A bed that isn’t merely clean, but so comfy you can really sink in, sleep soundly and refresh. A room outfitted with everything essential plus some welcome surprises. And, if you’re really lucky, that place will also give you a sense of the city you’re visiting for the first time—even if it’s only just for one night, passing through on a longer journey.

Hotel Ignacio is that place in St. Louis, Missouri.

St. Louis MOFirst opened in April 2011, the boutique hotel is located in midtown St. Louis—specifically, the artsy neighborhood known as the “Grand Center.” It’s walking distance from St. Louis University and just minutes from downtown: Stand in front of the hotel, look left and you’ll see the famous arch.

Most of the staff members at Hotel Ignacio are students at nearby St. Louis University. Maybe because they have a grade on the line, they’re friendlier than the average hotel employee and very eager to help. So ask questions that you maybe fear are stupid—like how to use the Kindle e-reader in your room or where’s the cheapest place in town to grab dinner—and they’ll answer with a smile.

Designed by the award-winning Lawrence Group, the hotel has 49 guest rooms and two suites, each uniquely decorated along four themes (Fine Art, Performing Arts, Architecture and Music).

Every bed has a Tempur-Pedic mattress dressed in organic bedding. If you have to work or sleep eludes you, every guest room has a media hub—in fact, Hotel Ignacio is one of only six hotels in the U.S. with Avaya hubs available to every guest—and a desk chair that’s ergonomically designed.

Go Green: Green-certified products are used throughout the hotel plus there are recycling stations and a conscious commitment to limit the use of paper.

Hotel Ignacio is a welcome oasis. And like an amuse bouche, it will whet your appetite for a longer visit to St. Louis.
