Knox Mason

Authentic taste of Knoxville, Tennessee.

By Hope S. Philbrick

Chef Matt Gallaher, named a “Rising Star Chef” in 2014, worked at Blackberry Farm and the Tennessee Governor’s Mansion before opening his own restaurant in downtown Knoxville, Tennessee.

So you can set your expectations high for his restaurant Knox Mason, located on the historic 100 Block of Gay St.

Local is on the menu at Knox Mason, from the ingredients to the Southern recipes featured. Look for Benton’s bacon, Riverplains eggs, Muddy Pond sorghum, and other Tennessee favorites as well as regional imports like Texas olive oil, Georgia quail, and Carolina Gold rice in dishes such as pork rinds, deviled eggs, cornbread, succotash and more.

For brunch the “Eggs Monroe” is a spin on Eggs Benedict, with Benton’s country ham and an herbed-up hollandaise. The hash features fingerling potatoes and heritage farm pork shoulder with locally foraged ramps and a fresh farm egg.
