Feeling neck deep in sauce and smoke for a barbecue feature I was researching awhile ago, one pro told me that barbecue styles vary every 50 miles and sometimes as far as you can throw a stone. While it’s generally true that you’ll find Georgia barbecue most often in Atlanta, since we’re a big cosmopolitan city in a state that takes barbecue almost as seriously as religion, you can find various denominations—which makes it easy to test a variety of styles, try something new, or feast upon what most reminds you of home.
Moe’s Original Bar B Que in Midtown serves up Alabama-style ‘que with an array of Southern sides prepared fresh daily.
What makes it ‘Bama-style? Most notably, there’s a white sauce—which you can drizzle on anything that suits your fancy, but chicken is most highly recommended. Some folks favor pork topped with both white and red sauces. The fun is tasting a range of options ’til you arrive at what suits you best.
This franchise location is operated by Preston Smith and Brett Mancuso. It’s a fast casual eatery and catering company that’s billed as a “Southern Soul Food Revival.”
Meats are the usual cast of options: pork, turkey, brisket, chicken and ribs, which steal the show. The sides are distinctive in their spiciness and creativity, with options like collard greens, lima beans, marinated coleslaw, potato salad, sweet potato casserole, mac-n-cheese, cornbread, baked beans, banana pudding and many more.
This is a place where you can roll up your sleeves, chow down, and find no excuse to leave hungry.
