Hiking near Atlanta, Georgia.
By Hope S. Philbrick
Fall in Georgia is sublime.
The best way to appreciate the season is to get outdoors. If you’re looking for a place to hike, the Pine Mountain Recreation Area in Cartersville, Georgia, (about an hour north of Atlanta) is one excellent option.
Multiple trails are available: Trek them all and you’ll have hiked nearly six miles.
The trail is challenging and steep with lots of switchbacks. You’ll ascend 1,562 feet above sea level and the summit is the highest point in the City of Cartersville.
From Atlanta, take I-75 North to Exit 288. Take the exit, turn right and at the end of the road turn right again. The parking area is on the left and is clearly signed.
Guided hikes are available. Moon hikes are rumored to be especially fun.
