Serving inspired, eclectic flavors
By Hope S. Philbrick
Opened the summer of 2015, Tavernpointe Kitchen & Bar is the newest culinary outlet for Chef Drew Van Leuvan.
Tavernpointe’s menu is an inspired mix of eclectic flavors with menu options like smoked Peruvian-style meats, Maine mussels with Spanish chorizo, fish tacos, chopped beef brisket sandwich, pork parmigiana, steak & frites, and much more.
Deviled eggs are topped with burnt ends, red vinegar and radish. One bite reveals a hidden layer of barbecue sauce that adds unexpected but welcome zing.
What makes the smoked meats Peruvian?, you might reasonably wonder. “The spices,” explains the manager, who goes on to detail the multiple steps involved in preparing the chicken and beef brisket. Get a combo plate if you must, but we suggest ordering the whole chicken ($34) to appropriately savor its juicy goodness. If you somehow manage to end up with leftovers, you’ll appreciate them the next day for lunch.
The Silver Queen corn tortellini mingles on the plate with chanterelle mushrooms, feta cheese and blueberries. The unexpected combination may well transform a blueberry hater into a lover.
The baked macaroni & cheese is prepared with smoked cheddar and jack cheeses, and the result is a comfort food you’ll want to climb into the warm bowl to devour.
Creamed corn gets some Latin infusion with Calabrian chili, queso fresco, lime and cilantro.
Four Roses bourbon ice cream would be a divine finish to any meal.
Madison Burch helms the bar, which offers draught, fresh and classic cocktails, plus an impressive list of wine and beer selections. The White Peach Sangria is a personal favorite.
The dining room is warm and inviting; outdoor seating is available whenever the weather cooperates.
Head to Tavernpointe for flavorful surprises.
