While there are many compelling reasons to visit Chattanooga, sometimes a weekend getaway is most relaxing when it’s blissfully free of an itinerary. Yes, it seems like you should be able to ‘get away from it all’ staying in your own home all weekend, but that never quite seems to work, does it? Too many distractions and obligations. So check into a hotel room and let the maid pick up the towels—well, we actually recommend you Go Green and use a towel more than once; so hang it up and then relax.

The Chattanoogan is the only AAA Four Diamond-rated full-service hotel in Chattanooga, Tennessee (and one of only 15 in the state to receive the honor). With its upscale accommodations, attentive service, on-site spa and restaurants, you need never leave the property until it’s time to check-out. Finding everything you need in one stop makes for a convenient and relaxing getaway, whether you seek some “me” time, a retreat with friends or a romantic escape.

Welcome to The Chattanoogan snack tray and cocktailsStressed upon arrival? After checking into one of the 199 guestrooms and suites designed for comfort, call room service. Let a snack tray and drinks kick-start the realization that you’re on vacation.

For true pampering, be sure to book a treatment at The Spa. Recently renovated and upgraded with new décor, new services and a new management company, it’s an oasis where the goal is to nurture guests.

The Spa at The ChattanooganSeveral of the new services are inspired by the Tennessee surroundings, including Walk in the River, Mountain Mud Masque & Massage, and Ruby Falls Hydrating Body Treatment. Our pick: The Flowing River massage, which incorporates long soothing strokes ($55 for 2 /minutes; $50 for 50 minutes; or $125 for 80 minutes).

Whichever service you choose, skilled therapists will customize the treatment to your individual needs with targeted massage and/or botanical products.

In addition to four treatment rooms, The Spa boasts a steam room, sauna, whirlpool, indoor pool, fitness center and outdoor terrace, all inviting places to linger with a complimentary drink either before or after your treatment.

When hungry (and ready to slip out of your robe and get fully dressed), head to Broad Street Grille (BSG) where Chef Andrew Millsap showcases ingredients sourced within 100 miles of the hotel. Millsap is committed to working closely with local farmers and purveyors in order to provide diners with the freshest produce and products available. All of the dishes at BSG are made from scratch. Millsap specializes in regional Southern cuisine and his menu showcases prime meats, sustainable seafood, house made pastas, and a range of delectable flavors.

BSGFor dinner and a show, choose a seat at the bar overlooking the exhibition kitchen and watch the team in the kitchen create and plate a full range of menu offerings.

If the dates of your stay include a Sunday, don’t miss brunch. The extensive buffet features prepared and made-to-order dishes from salads to desserts, eggs to pasta, meats, cheeses, seafood, grilled veggies and more.

Top priority in any hotel is, of course, the bed. Great news: The deluxe pillow-top mattresses here are very comfortable and dressed in cozy linens that invite lingering.

Sleep easy, eat well and get pampered. It’s a recipe for a relaxing getaway that’s worth repeating.

Essentials…
  • Complimentary high-speed wireless Internet are available throughout the hotel
  • The Chattanoogan offers a great location with easy access to Chattanooga’s free shuttles, cheap rental bikes and is within walking distance of downtown
  • Coffee makers are in each guestroom with complimentary coffee and tea
  • On-site dining options include The Foundry Lounge (which is a bar and thus adult-oriented), The Broad Street Grille, Stroud’s Sidewalk Café and room service
  • All guests have complimentary access to the heated indoor pool, Jacuzzi and fitness center
  • Pets under 25 pounds are allowed with some restrictions; a $150.00 refundable deposit will be required at check in
  • The Spa at The Chattanoogan is open Monday-Thursday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information or reservations, call 423-424-3779 or visit the website.
  • Two new adult-oriented deals offer tempting reasons to visit BSG: Friday night is “Steak Night,” featuring high-quality upscale meats from Buckhead Beef. “Saturday Night Dates” offer a romantic dinner for two with appetizers, salad or soup, entrées, a bottle of wine and dessert for $65 a couple.
  • Odds of Encountering Children… Higher on weekends and holidays than during weekdays when the hotel is primarily occupied by business travelers. Plan a weekday escape and you could have the hot tub and spa to yourself while the workers are busy in conference rooms. What’s more, according to Richard Pauley, director of sales and marketing, the hotel’s approach to adult travelers is that, in general, families are booked into rooms on lower floors while adults traveling without children are booked into rooms on the 4th and 5th floors. Excellent!
