“The Midtown Experience” = Spa Luxury

The Spa at Four Seasons Hotel Atlanta unveils a new treatment—emphasis on ‘treat.’

When it comes to massage, it matters not why you need it. Maybe you slept funny and now have a few knotted muscles. Or just ran a marathon. Or your boss is being particularly grouchy. Or maybe it’s your birthday. Whatever. The important thing is that it works.

The new Midtown Experience, created exclusively for Four Seasons Atlanta by one of its lead therapists, is a full body treatment certain to have you feeling much better by the end of the session than you did at the start.

Featuring locally made Mama Lavender Rosemary products, this treatment delivers head to toe refreshment, relaxation and rejuvenation. It’s like a whole day of treatments compressed into one 80-minute session with its innovative combination of Swedish and Thai massage, a foot scrub, reflexology, facial and abdominal massage plus aromatherapy and the soothing experience of being wrapped in warm sheets and towels.

Before the massage therapist even touches you, you’ll be asked to slip face down between silky clean sheets on a warm cushioned table and then invited to inhale whiffs of delicious lavender and rosemary aromas. Cares drift away.

The therapist first addresses feet with a foot scrub and reflexology massage. Then leg and arm muscles are aligned and elongated with long, flowing strokes and gentle stretching. Back and shoulders next get special attention. You’ll be asked to flip over for the therapist to work on your abdomen (warm sheets are draped below for privacy and, for ladies, warm towels above). Head and shoulder tension is eased with a calming face, scalp and neck massage.

Perhaps the best time to assess the effectiveness of any massage is at the halfway point, when the therapist has finished working on one side of your body and steps around the table to begin work on the other side. At that moment during the Midtown Experience, one half of your body feels like, well, you; the other half feels like it’s somewhere between putty and liquid.

At the end of the treatment the therapist says, “Take your time getting up. I’ll meet you out in the hallway.” You’ll want to nap for a couple of hours, but that’s not what she means—another lucky guest will soon enjoy some luxury from The Spa’s extensive menu in that room. So you’ll push yourself into standing position, somewhat surprised that it’s possible since you’d melted into the table.

The pampering need not end with the massage. Lounge in the softly lit relaxation room sipping iced citrus water or hot tea. Then head to the steam room, sauna or (if you remembered your swimming suit) hotel pool.

When it’s time to prep to depart, private showers plus a full range of amenities from razors to hairspray await.

You may not remember what brought you in, but you will know that you want to return.
